[JOB] Senior Research Scientist – User Experience Prototyping, The Interaction and Experience Research Lab in Intel Labs

Senior Research Scientist – User Experience Prototyping

Description
The Interaction and Experience Research Lab (IXR) in Intel Labs brings together technologists, social scientists, designers, and business strategists.  IXR’s Experience Prototyping (XP) Team applies technology expertise to discover emerging opportunities at the intersection of technology, user experience (UX), and markets. We believe that the iterative combination of prototyping and UX research reveals insights into the future of computing.

The XP Team is looking for a research-oriented individual with extensive experience in SW development and rapid functional prototyping. Experience in HW prototyping is highly valued, as prototypes will span hardware and software, and will range from rapid smoke-and-mirrors simulations to high-fidelity functional proofs-of-concept.  Experience in the application of technology to the automotive industry is also relevant.  The qualified candidate should be capable of leading the development of end-to-end prototypes from concept to completion, and will be responsible for establishing processes, tools, and platforms for successful prototype development.  Other key responsibilities of the position includes defining technical architectures, ensuring proper technical resourcing both internally and externally, managing vendor engagements, and overseeing and performing integration between front end and back end systems.

The ideal candidate should bring a point of view into the exploration of technology and usage, and should be able to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams of designers, researchers, and technologists.  This person should be a creative builder who can look to the future while simultaneously creating tangible experiences with current tools.  Finally, the candidate should have the communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to share a vision and bring others on board.

Job responsibilities include, but are not be limited to:

  • Translating research concepts and strategic directives into functional hardware, software, and integrated system prototypes.  Collaboratively creating and maintaining hardware and software across multiple platforms.
  • Leading and/or contributing to creative collaboration and proofs-of-concept within cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Communicating project results to internal and external stakeholders; presenting and promoting advancements to audiences with a wide variety of technical backgrounds.

This is a full-time position; compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. We are a team that believes we achieve our best results when we work together, so candidates must be willing to relocate to either the Portland (OR) or Santa Clara (CA) locations for this position.
