The Department of Art at Kansas State University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track position in Digital Arts to begin August 2014. We seek an exceptional artist and educator who will join our team of vibrant, creative professionals in studio art, art history, and graphic design.
FACULTY OPENING: Digital/New Media
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor, tenure track, nine month (academic year) in the Digital Arts/New Media Area, Department of Art at Kansas State University.
STARTING DATE: August 2014
QUALIFICATIONS:
Necessary Qualifications: MFA in visual arts. Candidates should possess the ability to teach the Adobe Creative Suite and other New Media tools; a thorough knowledge of contemporary issues in time-based new media and the broader field of art; an exhibition record reflecting a commitment to research; and a primary artistic research emphasis in digital media.
Preferred Qualifications: evidence of quality teaching at the university level; commitment to a sustained transdisciplinary practice of contemporary art utilizing emerging digital/electronic media; good writing and speaking skills; a clear vision for the future of and a willingness to promote the K-State art program; knowledge of digital facilities and an ability to contribute to their maintenance; and a primary artistic research emphasis in one or more of the following: multimedia, interactive digital media, other time-based media, web application development, open-source methodologies and communities.
POSITION SUMMARY: We seek a candidate who is an outstanding artist and an enthusiastic educator with a strong desire to enhance the program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels of his or her expertise. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research and program/curriculum planning and development and must value working with diverse student populations in teaching and research. The K-State Department of Art confers the BA, BFA, and MFA degrees. The new faculty member’s responsibilities will include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Teaching load is currently 5 courses per academic year. This includes teaching digital foundations courses introducing software and tools (which serve as part of the core curriculum for all art majors) and courses emphasizing new interactive technologies, including but not limited to: multimedia work, installations, web/interactive applications, open-source methodologies, and video or other time-based media. Willingness to participate in the MFA graduate program is also expected and potentially includes teaching a graduate-studio and seminar course.
As K-State is an international Carnegie 1 high-level research university, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a high level of creative research accomplishment, achieving excellence in teaching, and participating in departmental and university service. Teaching summer school under separate contract is possible.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
