Purpose of the Position
Reporting to the Head of Web in Digital Strategy Section, you will be responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of the design and production of internet and other multimedia products. Responsibilities also include management of the web consultants and outside vendors.

These strategic initiatives are aimed at promoting children`s rights and support for UNICEF’s mission globally.

Key Expected Results
1.  Conceptualise and design web projects: selection and/or production of appropriate multimedia resources such as graphic, video, and photographic materials.

2. Define terms of reference, recruit and supervise a team responsible for design and production requirements of the UNICEF.org website and other web products; manage contractors to bring projects to successful completion to spec and on deadline.

3. Ensure templates are appropriately designed and developed;

4. Maintain cutting-edge knowledge and skills of relevant technical developments;

5. Manage and respond to internal user support issues;

6. Develop network of trusted consultants for surge capacity;

7. Assist in establishing guidelines and standards in collaboration with the other members of Digital Strategy to ensure overall web integration, usability and navigability.

8. Support the development of our communication strategies, tactics and actions for UNICEF from the perspective of web design; Advise on the design implementation of digital tools.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate
– Advanced university degree in web development, design, new media, development, international communications, international organizations and/or related, extensive training and experience in electronic communications/new media, communications planning/strategy or writing/publishing.*

– Five years of relevant work experience in the planning, development and management of Internet design projects, three years of which should be in developing countries, and two at the management level.

– Knowledge of the following technical areas: HTML, CSS, Javascript, graphics creation and optimization, use of images, FTP

– Knowledge of contemporary development issues, developing country and programme exposure from field experience, and familiarity with child-related and UNICEF issues, including child rights.

– Fluency in English, additional knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish preferred.

Technical Qualifications:
– Knowledge of current developments in new media, internet/web technology
– Knowledge of the following specific areas of expertise relating to web development: usability, user experience, information architecture, content development
– Knowledge of the following technical areas:
– Understanding of high volume web site architecture and responsive design
– Excellent familiarity with computer systems and applications, ease in learning new technical skills
– Knowledge of current developments in communication theory, communication strategy
– Proven skills in communication and networking
– Knowledge of and proven expertise in project management, especially in relation to the Web

*A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
