[CALL] YBCA Artist in Residence 2014

A three-month artist residency
in collaboration with Art Practical

Proposals are being sought from artists whose work engages with social and public practice in any or all disciplines: visual arts, performance, theater, dance, film/video and new media.

Deadline for proposals: 5:00 PM, March 14, 2014.

• $10,000 monetary award to create meaningful projects and programs to engage with Bay Area communities.
• Professional support and marketing, institutional support, and access to a broader audience for the artist’s work.
• Feature-length profile in Art Practical and portfolio of artist’s work presented in Daily Serving.

Applicants to the residency must:

• be at least 18 years old
• not be enrolled as a full-time student during the residency period
• be a resident of San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin or San Mateo counties
• identify as an emerging or mid-career artist
• one artist (If part of a collective, all materials musy be submitted by a single representative of the group)
• in lieu of application fee, be enrolled inYBCA:You and/or a YBCA member. (Please note that enrollment fees are not refundable.)

You will be asked to provide the following:

• Work Samples: 4-5 images in jpeg format, each file not exceeding 3MB in size, plus captions or descriptions for each image. Multimedia work samples must be uploaded to a third-party site (e.g. Vimeo or YouTube), and submitted as direct links. Total running time of all materials must not exceed 5 minutes.
• Artistic Statement : (500 words maximum) Describe your practice, discussing your discipline(s), areas of interest, and how this residency fits into your career trajectory.
• Proposal: (500 words maximum) Describe the project you want to present including preliminary ideas for engagement with Bay Area audiences. How will you engage your selected community? What are your tools for both engaging and evaluating your work and the community’s response. Why this group of people/place?
• Statement of Purpose: (200 words maximum) Describe why you choose to work through social and public engagement and how you would define these practices to an audience not familiar with the terms.
• Timeline: (200 words maximum) Provide a three-month timeline — How would your project unfold over the course of your residency?
• Résumé or CV: Two pages maximum.
