Sr. Ruby on Rails Developer (San Francisco, Full Time)

A subsidiary of NBC News Digital is looking for a senior Rails developer to help build an exciting new video platform, to crowdsource live content from eye witnesses at the scene of breaking news. We are currently a distributed team, building across iOS, Android, Rails and the Wowza Media Server (Java). We are looking for an experienced software engineer who can help guide the architecture and execute on the vision — which will transform the news gathering process forever.
Responsibilities:
– Guide software architecture
– Lead the build of new features
– Design and implement systems to scale
– Practice test driven development, using unit tests and integration tests
– Own release management
– Manage engineering team
Skills
– Expert Rails knowledge (3+ years), using HAML, SASS, JS, asset pipeline
– Experience with databases and migrations, including MySQL, PostgresSQL, MongoDB
– Experience with implementing continuous integration, and tools including Jenkins
– Experience with release management and Git
– Comfortable with front-end development
– Knowledge of multiple authentication systems (e.g. OmniAuth, oAuth)
– Proficiency with responsive frameworks and and cross-browser/platform compatibility (e.g. Foundation, Bootstrap)
– Experience with live and on-demand video (ideally Wowza) using RTMP and/or HLS (desired but not required)
– Thorough, consistent use of TDD via Rspec, Capybara, Selenium
– Commitment to delighting users and exceeding expectations
– Enthusiastic for producing beautiful, well-structured code
– Passionate about the news media and its transformation
