Middle School Computer Teacher
SUMMARY
Packer is searching for a teacher with the passion, creativity and teaching skills to inspire the next generation of computer programmers. Our goal is to instill each of our Middle School students with the skills, understanding and experience to realize their own digital visions in code, while also teaching them to be productive, capable and smart users of technology. Because this position teaches every MS student for a semester each year, it has significant impact on the lives and learning of our students and their success in the MS program and beyond.
Our Middle School Computer teacher is responsible for teaching all Middle School computer science classes. This position has the privilege of on-boarding our Middle School students into our 1:1 laptop program. A central part of that is helping them begin to learn the possibilities and responsibilities associated with having their own laptop. Our curriculum in the Middle School begins by building students’ basic computing and computer management skills, while also introducing them to online collaboration with Google Apps and programming with Scratch. From there, it builds through the 6th, 7th and 8th grades, incorporating other programming languages, robotics, digital imaging, app building and digital portfolio creation. The digital fluency students develop in Middle School is critical to their success through their Middle and Upper School careers. This position is instrumental in getting them off to a good start and building a strong foundation.
This position will work hand-in-hand with our MS Technology Integrator and other technical staff to ensure the smooth and effective roll-out of laptops to our 5th grade each year. Likewise, this position also works with our Library and Health departments to coordinate and deliver our Digital Citizenship curriculum within the Middle School.
