Rebuild by Design is hiring. We have several 8 month positions with potential for extension, depending on how we end up getting funded.
Project Manager:
We currently have ten projects which aim to improve resiliency in the northeast region. Examples are a series of breakwaters off Staten Island with connected on-land water hubs that foster educational opportunities, or an emergency shelter in Bridgeport that functions in everyday times as a food co-op/health center/childcare place. Or fortifying a wastewater treatment plant on Long Island with an above grade park that better manages stormwater to keep the plant from overflowing when it rains. (Note that these projects are currently under review for funding, so I do not know exactly which projects we will be working on)
In a few weeks, we will announce which of the projects will get funded and then we need project managers to work with the teams (teams are designers, engineers, academics, etc.) to help get the projects implemented. It’s a mix of design, politics, and just plain getting things done. The guidance I was given was “we want someone who reads the newspaper and who has actually accomplished something before.” If a recent grad, should be someone who has had a job before.
Admin Support:
We are also hiring 1 or 2 office assistants. One person would be specifically assisting our principal and director. This person would be keeping schedules and travel arrangements. The other person would be more general admin help/office support including communications, research, etc. For both, proficiency in excel and MS office would be great, good phone manner, punctual, etc. Goes without saying that they should be flexible in terms of what might get thrown their way, and should be fun and creative. Interest in architectural design and resiliency would definitely be a plus.
