Graduate Preservation Assistant

The Preservation Department of New York University Libraries currently seeks a graduate student to work 5-12 hours per week as a Graduate Preservation Assistant.

The Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department Archives Preservation Unit provides services and resources to the archives and special collections in Bobst Library to improve the useful life of collections through preventive and remedial treatments, staff training, and the establishment of standards and practices.

Graduate Preservation Assistants’ responsibilities include:

  •  Housing archival and special collections materials;
  •  Remedial and retrospective interventions of accessioned materials;
  •  Preservation surveys;
  •  Environmental data collection; and
  •  Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be detail oriented and have the ability to exercise good judgment; work productively in deadline-oriented activities; work independently on assigned tasks; excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment; and must be in good physical condition in order to lift moderate (up to twenty pounds) and occasionally heavy (up to 40 pounds) loads. Prior experience with/or interest in preservation and archives preferred.

Compensation:

This is an hourly position to be paid at the rate of $13/hour.
