On Being, a Peabody and Webby Award-winning national news program, is looking for a Creative Coder / Web Developer who will work closely with the production team to create, design, and envision a new era for its digital channels and online services.
Reporting to the Head of Content, this person will work directly on the day-to-day creation and production of all On Being’s digital platforms: websites (onbeing.org andcivilconversationsproject.org), mobile/tablet apps, and emerging products and services as assigned. The right candidate will help lead our development and design efforts, aspiring toOn Being’s mission and elevating its presence through a combination of creative design thinking and multi-platform awareness. You must have a passion for innovating in the digital media space and improving the user experience. You will help us reimagine and deepen how our audiences relate to one another and our content — and then implement these new technologies.

Position Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of the Head of Content, maintains and supports all digital platforms and systems used to support On Being’s digital content delivery, including its content management system (Drupal), mobile and tablet applications, search, analytics, syndication, email newsletter, and blogging software.
- Work with editorial team to design and develop interactive content and features around On Being’s topics and audiences.
- Create and support systems allowing producers and editorial staff to update its websites with better workflows and intuitive interfaces.
- Establish and maintain standards for new site features and development projects.
- Lead development projects with keen technical documentation and tactful communications.
- Manage and track development schedules and deadlines.
- Evaluate new site architecture and recommend new platforms/modules to improve the audience’s and producer’s experiences in delivering On Being’s content.
- Inform page and app design, including limited work creating mock-ups and use case scenarios.
- Helps inform and execute on strategies that substantially increase audience.
- Adheres to and elevates high standards of accuracy, production quality, and timeliness.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Experience with Drupal and/or other content management systems and semantic tools.
- Three to five years experience in web development with fluency in HTML/CSS, HTML5, JavaScript, PHP/MySQL, and XML/XSLT.
- Experience with version control systems such as SVN and Git.
- Demonstrated experience working with Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under heavy deadline pressure.
- Ability to handle tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to specify business and technical requirements.
- Flexibility, ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Energetic and motivated to serve online audiences.
- Ability to envision project outcomes that integrate a variety of media.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Solid understanding and appreciation for information architecture and user interface design.
- Experience with streaming media and audio functionality for a quickly evolving environment.
- Knowledge of new media applications for digital distribution, audience engagement, and community networking.
