Data & Society Job Opening: Web / Design / Digital Media Producer
Data & Society is an NYC-based research institute focused on social, cultural, and ethical issues arising from data-centric technological development. Data & Society provides a space for researchers, entrepreneurs, activists, policy creators, journalists, geeks, and public intellectuals to gather, debate, and engage one another on the key issues introduced by the increasing availability of data in society. Our efforts include projects on civil rights, education, intelligence and automation, fair labor, privacy, and ethical use of data. We have a vibrant group of fellows whose interests and work range from finance and health to journalism and librarianship.
Data & Society is looking for a web / design / digital media producer to start immediately.
Do you enjoy challenges? Would you like to play a vital role in a new and enterprising research outfit? Make your mark! Help us present our work in ways that increase the impact we’re having.
We are seeking a multi-talented geek to support Data & Society’s communications efforts. This is a key staff role in our growing research institute, which will require energy, creativity, and a heap of technical skills. The web / design / digital media producer will work closely with the rest of the team to find ways to punch above our weight in terms of the style and utility of our online presence, research projects, events, and outputs.
Areas of responsibility include:
1) Web Development (WordPress): Maintenance and development of Data & Society’s primary website. Maintenance and development of an expanding universe of project- and event-specific websites, as well as blogs and websites tied to research fellows and their work.
2) Digital Media: Audio/video recording, live webcasting, post-production, and posting online of Data & Society events, including weekly talks in our loft. Coordination with AV personnel at outside event venues. Still photography as needed.
3) Design: Light design and layout of online and printed research products, as well as schwag and event-specific materials. Competent use and adaptation of Data & Society’s visual identity.
