Quality Assurance and Digital Operations Specialist

New York Public Radio is looking for a Quality Assurance and Digital Operations Specialist to join the Digital Product & Technology team. The Quality Assurance and Digital Operations Specialist will work with our existing Software Test Engineer, project managers, product managers and developers to execute test plans and perform daily analysis and execution of the test efforts for our existing and future digital products. They will also work with internal producers and editors on customer relations issues and requests with Content Management System (CMS) and other internal tools.

Interest in working with cutting edge digital technologies is essential for this position.


  • Work with product managers, project managers and developers to understand requirements and execute a testing plan for all product features.
  • Manually test websites, mobile apps, interactive features, and audio players for incorrect functionality, hard errors, usability issues, and visual inconsistencies.
  • Investigate bugs to determine harsher failures and straightforward replication steps.
  • Document issues in our bug tracking system (Jira), including relevant brief descriptions of the issue with detailed steps to replicate. Create precise records of testing steps and findings.
  • Monitor NYPR products on third-party platforms for accurate display and functionality.
  • Provide regular progress reports of all issues at daily scrums and bi-weekly sprint reviews.
  • Be the point person for technical issues with the websites and apps.
  • Work closely with station producers and the Listener Services department to handle internal producer and external customer related issues and requests.
  • Train internal producers and editors in using NYPR’s CMS and other tools.
  • Enforce emergency escalation procedures in case of outages.
  • Help manage communication within the organization about technical problems.


  • Proven interpersonal, analytical, strategy, and creative problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Desire and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and provide technical support in person, on the phone, and via email.
  • 1-2 years software testing/Quality Assurance  experience or combined information systems analysis, design, development or implementation experience.
  • Experience in testing websites and web applications in multiple browsers.
  • Experience collecting and investigating business and functional requirements in order to develop a test plan.
  • Experience working in an agile team a plus.
  • Experience using bug tracking software, mind mapping software, or Selenium for planning tests, running tests and tracking defects is a plus.
  • Experience with GIT a plus.
  • Mobile app testing experience a plus.
