Prudential Financial is looking for a high-energy Data Visualization, Design expert to help build out a new Data Analytics capability as an enterprise service provider, with an initial focus on serving the company’s US businesses and select corporate functions. The role requires a rare combination of deep and sophisticated expertise in data visualization; strong knowledge of statistical modeling; business acumen; strategic mindset; client, relationship, and project management; and a passion for building new capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new strategic initiative that will evolve and grow over time.

Responsibilities for this position include leading advanced data visualization efforts for the Data Analytics Department. Visualizations will take the form of interactive graphics, dashboards, infographics, and other cutting-edge techniques, and also more traditional media such as PowerPoint presentations. The ideal candidate will have experience both in front-end visualization libraries, such as d3.js, as well data visualization tools, such as Tableau. This position is located in Newark, N.J., and is part of a newly developing Data Analytics team. While we have access to extensive video and teleconferencing technologies, some domestic travel may be needed in order to understand individual Prudential businesses’ strategic imperatives and to develop advisory relationships with them.

Responsibilities:

·        Enhance analytics through the design and development of compelling information visualizations that help uncover new patterns and insights

·        Extract and aggregate large and diverse data sets from a variety of data sources, and turn abstract data and insights into easily comprehensible visuals for business consumption

·        Leverage deep technical expertise in information visualization methodologies and tools; recommend plans for growth through the adoption of new visualization methodologies

·        Lead the development of interactive graphics and dashboards, as well as visually appealing static representations (e.g., PowerPoint presentations)

·        Partner with data scientist pods to visualize output during the formulation, implementation, testing, and validation of predictive models

·        Champion the use of visualization both within the Data Analytics team and throughout the U.S. businesses, where appropriate

·        Coordinate with the data team to ensure data structure within the visualization tool is efficient and effect and for deployment throughout the business

·        Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment

·        Manage project plans and timelines to ensure projects are delivered with the highest quality and on time

Requirements:

·        Advanced (master’s or Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline, or bachelor’s degree plus equivalent work experience

·        7+ years of experience in visual information design and interactive visualization development with expertise in representing complex information in an actionable and high-impact way, including experience with geographical analysis, “what if” analysis, outlier detection clustering, profiling, and optimization

·        Strong background in data mining and statistics, with “hands-on” experience using statistical programming packages, such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS, etc. Prior exposure to Hadoop and “big data” environments a plus

·        3+ years experience in front-end data visualization libraries, such as d3.js, and other data visualization tools, including SQL, R Graphics, HTML, CSS, and Java

·        3+ years experience design and development experience using Tableau or a similar data visualization/business intelligence tool.

·        Prior experience with interactive graphics development using HTML5/Canvas, WebGL, OpenGL, Direct3D, or similar

·        Strong understanding of database principles, processes, technologies, and tools in DB2, Oracle, Sybase, or TeraData environments

·        Strong understanding of color theory, visual perception, typography, and pattern recognition

·        Candidates should be prepared to present a portfolio of work (academic and/or professional) as part of the interview process
