[GIG] Developer/Programmer, Digital STEM Platform

Project: Digital STEM Platform

A group of affiliated high schools has an ongoing initiative to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) programming and curricula, but there is little integration between programs, and teachers doing innovative work have little opportunity for knowledge-sharing. The group of schools would like to develop a digital platform to facilitate existing STEM projects and encourage new ones, enable knowledge-sharing between and among teachers and students, better prepare students for participation in the collaborative world of scientific investigation, and host collaborative citizen science projects.

Functionality needs for the platform include:

• Project pages: lesson plans, documents, photos/videos, blogging, commenting

• Data collection

• Data visualization

• Resource library: projects, ideas, links, opportunities, etc.

• Communication

• Groups, forums, hangouts

• User/login functionality

Instead of a completely custom design (and in order to keep costs down for the schools), the platform will need to use (as much as possible) existing off-the-shelf tools that can be customized/integrated, such as an open source learning management system and/or Google forms/sheets/etc.

We are looking for a web developer/programmer to work with us to design and build this platform. It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in STEM and/or education in general. Please let us know if you’re interested.
