Responsibilities: The interactive designer will work with our team, curators, educators, and technical experts to design the digital experience for our entire organization—reaching the millions of people who interact with the Museum both on-site and online. Our process is thus intrinsically collaborative, necessitating a balance between beautiful, efficient designs and our users’ needs, organizational requirements, and technical considerations. This design must incorporate our taste, but also feedback from these camps and quantitative data to make the best experiences we can. We have to be able to communicate design options, decisions, and strategies across the organization, including to non-designers. Our department exists as part of an informal design network here at MoMA, collaborating with peers in Audio Visual, Graphic Design and Advertising, Interpretation, and the Exhibition Design and Production teams. Our group is agile, meaning close and direct work with developers on fast-evolving, iterative designs. Our designers create the complete scope of a user experience, from sketches to wireframes, through visual design and final production products. We’re experimenting with new tools and new processes, so the designer will be actively involved in researching these approaches and techniques. Reports to Director, Digital Media.Requirements: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in design and three or more years of experience, or equivalent. Solid portfolio of diverse projects ranging in scale. Must be a multifaceted designer capable of abstract and conceptual thinking, with expertise in both user experience and visual design, and an excellent storyteller and natural collaborator.
