About the Position
Position Summary
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Innovation Architect to join the IDEA Lab, reporting to the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurs and Director, IDEA Lab.  The Innovation Architect will be responsible for the overall design, fit out and operations of a new lab focused on electronics, new media, drone and robotic technologies.
The space is intended to function as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in Abu Dhabi serving both the NYUAD and broader community. The candidate is further expected to provide leadership, direction and guidance for developing a curriculum to educate and utilize the lab and its various equipment and technologies. The candidate will also work closely with a small core team including the Director, Program Manager and the Incubation Manager, but will have significant independence related to the overall design and vision of the lab.
This is a fixed-term position and will be recruited for a period of either one year or three years, based on the selected candidate’s experience. The one year contract will be focused upon the overall design and fit out. The three year contract will include the former responsibilities in addition to assist in the development of the curriculum and also tutor, mentor and advise students and community members on relevant topics.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing the design, procurement and project management of the robotics maker space/lab from conception through execution
Specify, acquire and maintain a world-class stock of components and materials
Create and maintain policies, machinery and methodologies to deliver a high-availability, world-class prototyping workshop for program participants
Develop and manage annual budget for lab space and associated activities including acquiring and maintaining inventory of the materials, equipment and components
Continual assessment, improvement, and implementation of safety standards and policies for the space: development of a safety briefing (as a handout to new users), planning of safety instruction session on a regular basis, training members in safe work procedures (e.g. use of personal protective equipment) and document training in the training log, supervision of students, keeping controls in place and yearly evaluation of existing Risk Assessment
If this position is offered for a period of three (3) year contract, it will also include the following:
Tutor, mentor, and advise students and community members on activities related to ideation, design, prototyping, and manufacturing of physical, electrical, mechanical, and computational models and projects
Education Requirements
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Desirable
Masters Degree in Engineering with focus on Mechatronics and/or Robotics; or,
Masters Degree in Product or Industrial Design with undergraduate in Engineering
Experience Requirements

Minimum three years experience in an engineering capacity with experience in Robotics, 2D/3D CAD Design, CAM for multiple production processes, Electronics Prototyping, Mechanical Prototyping, Code Prototyping, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, small network administration, Java, Arduino, RaspberryPi, Windows, Linux
