A/D/O Studio Supervisor

 

The Brand and Business Innovation Team at MINI works on beyond-the-car business models as an internal start-up. Our interdisciplinary team creates innovative products and services – all targeted towards the creative class in urban hubs like New York, Shanghai and Berlin. We go from idea, concept, and strategy to implementation. For our projects, our interdisciplinary team works with outstanding external partners and technology/shared economy start-ups, to identify new opportunities and develop innovative concepts.

 

This year we are launching a new creative environment in Brooklyn called A/D/O, open to the public but tailored to design professionals, providing them a space to work, develop and play. The breakthrough concept will comprise public and private workspaces, a curriculum of design talks and workshops, a working studio with prototyping lab, a library of design resources, a world-class restaurant, a design shop and a full calendar of cultural events.

 

The Studio at A/D/O is a cutting-edge workspace and laboratory for individuals and small teams of designers to advance their practice to the next level, launch a new product or find new inspiration. As Studio Supervisor, you will be an integral member of the Studio experience helping our design community achieve their visions through maintenance and operation of the equipment, project assistance and facilitation, technical programming and more.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

  • Supporting the projects of the Studio at A/D/O community with technical assistance
  • Supervising the prototyping lab and be available to designers to demo tools
  • Giving tutorials and advance community projects
  • Guiding ongoing purchasing of cutting-edge materials and equipment
  • Maintaining and quality control the lab
  • Being a voice for designers in the studio
  • Giving tours of the space to community members interested in studio rental
  • Full-time schedule is Wednesday through Sunday

Qualifications

 

  • A minimum of 2 years of managing and maintaining a fabrication lab
  • Deep knowledge of prototyping and manufacturing fields
  • A leader in designer and fabricator communities
  • Excellent teaching and mentoring skills
  • Personable and approachable
  • Willingness to share techniques, research, and knowledge with others
  • A passion for helping others achieve their visions
  • Willingness to be on-call for maintenance questions and issues as needed
  • Bonus: brings their own projects to the studio as part of an established design practice
