The Jacobs Hall Design Specialists provide professional design, prototyping and fabrication support in Jacobs Hall studios and equipment rooms. Under direct supervision from the Jacobs Hall Technical Lab lead, the Design Specialists work as a close team to implement a safety training program, ensure safe and responsible usage of all Jacobs Hall equipment, maintaining equipment, and provide mentorship and design and fabrication advice to students. Jacobs Hall Design Specialists play a key role in fostering a welcoming atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and experimentation, and should be enthusiastic about engaging with students from a range of disciplines.
The Design Specialist should have strong working knowledge of shop and general fabrication best practices, be able to maintain and repair lab machinery and equipment as necessary, and possess expertise in the operation of all standard instruments in the areas of traditional and digital fabrication, rapid prototyping, and electronics fabrication and testing. They will be expected to assist with maintaining part and material inventories and with safety records.
This Design Specialist position is for a part-time, 20 hours a week position. Applicants should have a flexible schedule and be willing to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
