JOB: Fall ’16 Adjunct Teaching Vacancies / Various Web Classes / City College of New York

The Electronic Design and Multimedia Program in the City College (CUNY) Art Department has adjunct openings for two courses for Fall 2016:
 
Art 39540 Design for the Web1, Wednesdays 2-4:50
Art 49552 Topics in Web Programming (Javascript), Monday 6:15-9:05
Classes begin 8/26 and end approximately 12/16
Adjunct must be a citizen or have permission to work in the US. The adjunct rate is approximately $70/hr for 45 hours (which includes the Final Review).
The Art Department has a Digital Design concentration in the BA for studio art with about 145 students, and a BFA in Electronic Design and Multimedia with about 70 students. Web Design 1 is a required foundation course in the BFA and is a prereq. for the Topics class

Art 39540 3EF Design for the Web 1
Prereq.: Art 29500 (Typography) and 29526 (2D Imaging); 3 hrs./3 cr.
Interface design, information structuring and interactivity for the World Wide Web from the perspective of design, utility and interactivity. Development of HTML documents and images, design and prototype testing of a logical hierarchical information structure.
Learning Outcomes:
• Solve problems creatively combining information architecture concepts, design principles, imaging software and Web languages.
• Use HTML and CSS to create websites responding to real-life design objectives.
• Develop techniques for visualizing and implementing Web design mock-ups.
• Apply design principles to digital media while experimenting and developing creative projects..
• Create professional level projects to be used as portfolio work.

Art 49552 Topics in Web Programming.  
Prereq: ART 39552 AND Art 39540 OR 49540 Design for the Web 2. 3 hrs./3 cr.
Rotating semester-long topics in web programming providing introduction and practice in client-side scripting languages, server-side scripting languages, dynamically generated web pages (CGI), and database scripting and integration. Course may be taken up to four times.
Additional description:
This course will introduce programming for the web using Javascript, and guide students through the process of building creative web-based projects Topics will include: how to use developer tools, how to read documentation, how to properly form your code, and strategies for debugging.
Learning Outcomes: 
• Students should be able to describe the functionality of web-oriented programming languages and their appropriate use.
• Students should become familiar with at least one web-based scripting language and use it to develop complex web pages.
• Students should successfully employ and debug projects using the programming languages taught in class.
