The Department of Art at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Digital Design and Emerging Technologies beginning Fall 2018.
We seek candidates with a high-level of creative or industry activity comfortable working in an interdisciplinary arts environment whose practice bridges interactive digital media design and experimental practices. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, user interface design, web and mobile applications, information design, database development, speculative design, and emergent media/hybrid forms. Candidates should have an in-depth understanding of design processes and methodologies including research, concept development, and execution. A basic knowledge of typography and traditional graphic design practices is a plus.
The department has launched a new socially-engaged design studio. Candidates with an interest in community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Art has graduate programs at the MA, MFA and PhD levels as well as BFA and BA programs. The candidate is expected to teach 2 courses a semester, advise students and contribute to the development of the design and emerging practices curriculum and the new socially-engaged design studio initiative.

Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree (MFA) in a studio discipline or related field is required. A PhD with will also be considered if the candidate has an active creative practice. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher.
