The NYU Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation (OGI) is seeking one Undergraduate Interactive Media and Communications Assistant for the 2023–2024 Academic Year to support our Communications and Design Graduate Assistant. The position will report to the Senior Associate Director of Strategic Projects, Communications, and Design and to the Graduate Assistant for Communications and Design. Responsibilities can range from outward communications support (e.g., content creation, copyediting, proofreading, etc.) to administrative support (e.g., calendaring, processing paperwork, etc.) and social media management.

The Interactive Media and Communications Assistant is responsible for using the Office of Global Inclusion newsletter, social media accounts, and website to advertise upcoming events/programs, post educational materials and resources, and monitor all digital communications. Additionally, this role will provide support in drafting copy for outbound communications through OGI social media channels and the website. The position requires becoming familiar with and staying up to date on OGI initiatives and goals, as well as maintaining communication with our CMEP and LGBTQ+ centers. General Responsibilities:

  • Ideate and create content for our social media (e.g., reels, TikToks, etc.)
  • Promote the office’s events and programs through our email newsletter, website, social media, and print flyers
  • Compile, create, and post educational articles and resources on the office’s social media accounts
  • Draft and edit communication documents for events and initiatives
  • Coordinate across Office of Global Inclusion social media platforms and support as needed
  • Collect social media analytics
  • Support with weekly and special newsletters and other office communications
  • General office support—greet visitors, answer visitors’ questions, and refer them to appropriate resources
  • General administrative duties (e.g. answering phones, copies, emails)
  • Occasionally assist with university-related functions and events (Zoom meetings, Webinars, and possibly small in-person events) to promote office-sponsored programs and services
  • Other duties as assigned, as well as opportunities for increased responsibilities around area(s) of interest
  • Attend necessary trainings, staff meetings, and team development sessions as requested

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies Needed:

  • A passion for Global Inclusion, Diversity, Belonging, Equity, and Access (GIDBEA) work, and has an understanding of the unique needs and concerns of historically marginalized and excluded groups within the NYU community
  • Knowledge and proficiency using Facebook, Instagram (Stories, Feed, Reels), Twitter, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Familiarity with Google platforms (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Strong speaking, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to write meaningful copy with minimal guidance
  • Experience in an administrative capacity
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement projects
  • Ability to self-start and communicate progress for projects
  • Comfort and experience working in flexible, changing, and fast-paced work environments
  • An openness to giving, receiving, and applying feedback with a positive attitude to improve individual and team performance
  • Ability to take initiative and work from a positive and solutions-oriented framework
  • Willingness to be part of a team
  • Ability to operate with confidentiality
  • Must be a currently enrolled full-time undergraduate student at NYU in the 2023–2024 academic year
  • Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and proficiency using video editing softwares
  • Experience in copyediting or copywriting
  • Experience running social media accounts for an organization and keeping up a brand “tone”
  • Experience documenting events through photos and/or video
  • Enthusiasm for brainstorming and creating new evergreen social content

Compensation and Expectations: 

  • Pay: $16.00/hour
  • Start Date: Dependent on completion of hiring paperwork
  • Schedule: 10 to 20 hours/week
  • Duration: 
    • Spring of 2024 (can work until the last eligible day of the semester) with the possibility to continue during the Summer and Fall of 2024

Evaluation:

We provide ongoing feedback through 1-on-1 meetings with your direct supervisor, which includes reflection on how the employee is moving towards the goals and priorities that were established together at the start of their work with the office. At the end of each semester, we evaluate how the experience has been—successes and areas for growth—and begin to establish goals for the future.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $16-$18 per hour for undergraduate students and $28.25-$29 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
