STETSON UNIVERSITY
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
OF DIGITAL ARTS
POSITION: Stetson University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as a full-time Assistant Professor of Digital Arts to serve its interdisciplinary Digital Arts program (art, sound, computer science).
QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking an artist who has both strong teaching experience and an active exhibition record in digital video and/or 3D imaging, preferably both. Candidates must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree. This position will be integral to a new interdisciplinary program in creative practice that is being developed; therefore it is essential that candidates be enthusiastic about pursuing interdisciplinary approaches to making art and an active engagement with art theory and criticism. Candidates must also be committed to combining digital media with a liberal arts education and working with undergraduates from a variety of majors across the university.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The teaching load is three courses per semester and advising students while they work on Senior Projects. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in digital video, motion graphics and 3D animation. The candidate will also be expected to help develop interdisciplinary courses that contribute to the mission of our new cross-disciplinary program in creative practice and research. Secondary topics would be based on the candidate’s expertise in areas such as: Studio Arts, Art History, Visual Studies, Creative Writing and Theatre. All faculty are also expected to offer courses to the University’s program of General Education, including offerings in Creative Arts, First Year Seminars, and Junior Seminars.
THE UNIVERSITY: Stetson University (http://www.stetson.edu) is a selective, private university with about 2,600 students. The main campus is located in DeLand, Florida, between Daytona Beach and Orlando.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Digital Arts program (http://www.stetson.edu/diga) was founded in 1996 and brings together faculty and resources from the disciplines of art, computer science and music, because we believe the computer makes it easier for artists to move between media and collaborate across specialties. This unique program provides an environment where faculty and students can explore the inter-relationships between disciplines and stretch the boundaries of artistic practice.
SALARY: Salary is budgeted at the rank of junior faculty.
STARTING DATE: August 2012.
APPLICATION: Applicants must send the following materials for consideration: 1) cover letter that includes a statement about the candidate’s philosophy of teaching in a liberal arts environment, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) transcripts with the highest degree (copies acceptable for screening), 4) three letters of recommendation (at least one of which should include an evaluation of teaching ability), and 5) samples of work. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Application materials may be submitted electronically to mroberts@stetson.edu or mailed to the following address:
