A Senior Designer leads by example and assumes a high level of ownership and responsibility for their projects. They have a rock-solid foundation in design & visual communications (branding, composition, typography, etc.) and have honed their skills to create pixel-perfect designs across multiple platforms and a wide range of media. This full-time position affords a good deal of independence and latitude within the studio in defining and maintaining conceptual vision, in managing successful project teams, evaluating and understanding client’s needs, and maintaining the user experience–while applying and communicating a solid rationale and executing to the highest standards.
This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position on site in our Manhattan office.
Expectations & Responsibilities
Ideal candidates will display strong leadership on a daily basis and confidence in presenting their work internally and to clients. Senior Designers respond to input and changes with broad perspective, understanding and promptness, while still asserting creative integrity and vision for their work. Senior designers are responsible for not only producing exemplary work for 2 to 3 projects at a time, but also mentoring junior members of the design team to produce innovative and sophisticated solutions.
Every Designer within the design discipline contributes to a project’s conceptual development and should be eager to collaborate in developing meaningful experiences for a wide-range of audiences. Designers are expected to bring a strong point of view to both challenge and inspire one another, to push boundaries and elevate our work. This ability must be backed by a sophisticated executional ability of the highest calibre, and exceptional command of the production process from initial concept to final delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5 years professional experience in a studio environment, or Masters Degree in Design and 3 years professional experience
- Outstanding skill in graphic design (composition, typography, branding, image making)
- Exceptional hands-on design skills and a mastery of digital design principles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to articulate your thinking to colleagues, clients, and the design industry
- Ability to receive and give critical feedback
- An expert knowledge of the Adobe Suite. Experience with 2D animation, film editing, and/or 3D is a plus
- Ability to prototype ideas quickly using pen and paper or popular tools like Flinto and Form
- Ability to conceptually own, craft and present visually powerful and beautiful presentations that articulate a deep understanding of what we do
- Comprehensive awareness and interest in new media, emerging technologies, and design trends
- Ability to work collaboratively and participate in the creation of a respectful working environment

Potion is seeking a talented, self-motivated, and collaborative Creative Coder to join our passionate, talented, and innovative team for the Fall. An interest in Interactive and/ or Digital Design is a huge plus.
A development internship at Potion is a hands-on learning experience in a fast-paced, real world environment. You will be exposed to all aspects of projects, from concept and design to development, production and installation. You will work closely with producers, designers and developers to both learn and contribute to projects.
This position is a great opportunity to experience working in a real-life studio environment, and offers a chance to make meaningful contributions to projects that will reach large audiences across the country and the world.
Some previous development experience in a creative coding platform is expected (i.e. Processing, OpenFrameworks, Cinder, Unity, etc.). Knowledge of web-based technologies (front and back-end) are a major plus.

From day one you will be collaborating with fellow designers, developers and producers throughout a range of project phases, including in-depth research and concepting, design exploration, low-fidelity prototyping, through to the final stages of design production.
Design Interns are responsible for supporting the conceptual development, direction and delivery of visual design. Potion seeks a full-time intern to join our Production discipline for Fall 2015. We are looking for a self-motivated, organized candidate with effective time-management skills who enjoys working in an interdisciplinary studio of producers, designers and developers.
Production Interns partner with one of our Producers to gain knowledge and understanding of our Design studio and the collaboration between disciplines. They work with a Producer-mentor to manage the progress of 1-2 projects through each design phase, help in story creation, learn to protect against scope creep, maintain the project schedule and budget and raise any concerns to the Director of Production.
This is an opportunity to work within a highly functioning and well known design studio and begin to understand design and software development processes and how they translate into finished projects. As a Production intern at Potion you will get the chance to work with teams that produce beautiful and engaging stories for a range of cultural, institutional, and corporate clients.

The position requires performing basic project management such as:
- Assist with the creation of project documentation, i.e. project status reports and technical manuals at project completion.

Potion is seeking a qualified software QA analyst to join our studio on a freelance basis. The analyst will manually test software applications to ensure compliance with design and software specifications. This person will identify, analyze, and document defects in visual design, software application functions, outputs and content, report findings effectively to project team, and assist in issue resolution.
