We are recruiting a new postdoc for the EyCon project (Visual AI and Early Conflict Photography), which is funded by the AHRC in the UK and LABEX in France.
Many institutions have digitised war photos, but the scattered nature of these digitisations and the multiple standards of metadata make it very difficult for end-users to visualise the interconnectedness of these visual records. Drawing on advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Eycon aims to increase the discoverability and usability of overlooked and scattered material on colonial, imperial and international armed conflicts up to 1918.
The researcher’s primary responsibilities will be to manage communications with the project’s stakeholders; contribute to the organisation and delivery of project events; edit journal special issues; and produce academic research outputs relevant to the project.
A PhD (or near completion) in an area relevant to the project focus (such as Digital Humanities, archival studies, communication and media, computer science, or other relevant fields) is needed.
The post can be done remotely with occasional travel as needed. The candidate must be a UK resident with existing permission to work in the UK.
Part-time FTE0.65 (24.05 hours per week) and fixed term from 3rd January 2023 to 31st July 2023.
Deadline for applying: 21 November 2022.
