Social Media Prototyper (Contract / Part-Time, Equity-Based)
We’re building a new kind of social platform to enable healthy online conversation between people of different political backgrounds, seeking to catalyze an emerging zeitgeist in 2026 and beyond and ride that to massive success and impact.
The startup is currently a newsletter with 300,000 subscribers. Our work will be to create a social media platform on the back of this newsletter that is both incredibly engaging and that also supports constructive dialogue and shared understanding, continuously testing and refining the product until it is awesome at both of these things.
We’re looking for a fast-moving prototyper to help us rapidly explore and test new product ideas. This is an opportunity to shape the future of a platform at scale – and to do it through weekly, data-driven experimentation with a founding team.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship lightweight prototypes weekly (lo-fi, front-end oriented) for user testing
- Work with strategy, design, and research leads to turn ideas into testable features
- Use feature flags / A/B testing frameworks to deploy experiments into live environment
- Iterate quickly based on engagement data and user feedback
- Collaborate with the technical lead to decide which experiments get hardened into production
Ideal Profile
- Excellent with rapid prototyping tools (low-code, APIs, integrations), bonus if you also know front-end web development (if not we can manage)
- Able to work fast, scrappy and self-directed
- Collaborates well with researchers, strategists, and engineers
- Excited by the prospect of bridging divides and strengthening online dialogue
Role Details
- ~15–20 hours per week (flexible, but enough to ship 1–2 experiments weekly)
- Compensation: equity tied to milestones to begin, cash compensation to follow
- Remote / flexible location
About BetaTown:
BetaTown is the coolest venture studio you’ve never heard of. Currently a team of 5 in stealth mode, we are just getting the flywheel moving. We’re focused on human-centric ventures, in particular on media and politics at the moment (that will expand as we grow). We call ourselves BetaTown because… we own a town. Or part of a town anyway. Somewhere in Texas. We’ll be hosting retreats there for our network as the flywheel starts to move faster. To say hi or learn more, get in touch: hello@betatown.xyz
