We’re looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Researcher to support the day-to-day operations of Webbmedia Group. If you’re curious about emerging technologies, communications and the future and want to influence some of the most important minds in business, media, government and corporate nonprofits worldwide, we want to hear from you.
About This Position: We are looking for a Researcher who will work directly with partners and staff to produce research and client deliverables. In short, Webbmedia Group focuses intensively on emerging trends in digital technology and we think about how those tools/ applications/ technologies will affect multiple spheres of daily life. Webbmedia Group is recognized as one of the leading emerging tech strategy firms in the industry. Our research foci include:
* Sensor technologies
* Gaming (digital, retail, social)
* Social ecosystems
* Social commerce
* Mobile technologies and commerce
* Value networks
* Open source code and technology
* Google, Facebook and Microsoft
* HTML5
* Web frameworks
* Disruptive business models
* Journalism and media
* Emerging technology trends
Responsibilities: As a Researcher, you will work closely with the Webbmedia Group team as well as developers, startups and industry leaders to learn about how the focus areas above impact our clients and the communities Webbmedia serves. We expect Researchers to:
* Help us spot and monitor emerging trends.
* Conduct primary and secondary research.
* Assist us in writing client reports and memos, white papers, industry reports and staff presentations.
Qualifications:
* Either 3-5 years working as as a technology or business staff reporter at a news organization or 3-5 years working as a researcher for a similar organization.
* Strong, demonstrated interest in emerging technology.
* Digital and social media fluency. If one of us mentions “Color” you should already know we’re not talking about paint.
* BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, English or Digital Media and a very strong writing ability.
* Strong, demonstrated background in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
* Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
* Ability to explain complicated technologies succinctly and effectively without “dumbing down” content.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Preferred: Current Mac user who has experience using Pages and Keynote.
* Preferred: Excellent Excel and Google documents skills.
* Preferred: Experience using Fusion Tables.
Location: Webbmedia Group works in a virtualized office environment, however we prefer candidates who are based in New York City, Washington DC or the Bay Area (California).
Hours and Compensation: This is a part-time 1099 position, with a guaranteed number of hours and pay each month. We’ll ask the right candidate to set his/ her pay rate (as long as its reasonable).
