Director of Interactive Media and Technology Design
ESI Design – one of the world’s leading experience design firms is seeking a Director of Interactive Media and Technology Design to work as part of a cross-disciplinary team developing environments for cultural, institutional, corporate and retail clients all with a focus on visitor interaction and experience design. The position will involve managing the interactive media and technology design department and leading the digital design from concept through completion on multiple projects.
The current department houses 8+ full time staff and a number of freelance production artists, programmers, and designers. This position requires the oversight of both design and production of traditional media, interactive software and technology development projects.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of industry developments in leading edge digital media and interactive technology, and possesses the ability to translate that knowledge into innovative and pragmatic designs.
Responsible for:
• Overseeing schedule and workflow for the interactive media and technology design department, its staff, and third party design/production resources.
• Monitoring the design work within the interactive media and technology design department to assure consistency and quality
• Creating overall digital strategy and approach to interactive technology development for the firm
• Working with the internal multi-disciplinary design team including physical designers, A/V designers, graphic designers, technical systems designers, copywriters programmers and developers
• Building and maintaining collaborative teams in and across departments
• Presenting ideas and designs verbally and visually; both internally and directly to clients
• Mentoring staff to evolve their skills sets and keeping staff up to date on emerging digital technologies and techniques
• Participating in business development and marketing efforts from prospective client pitches to developing thought leadership in the marketplace
• Identifying needed skills sets, and attracting talent
• This job does require some travel- both USA and internationally.
Qualifications:
• At least 10+ years experience working in the field of digital media design and production
• At least 5+ years experience working in a managerial role. Extensive knowledge of interviewing, hiring, and managing the performance of a design team
• Exceptional leadership, presentation and communication skills
• Creative, conceptual thinker who can lead design projects from brainstorming/concept phase through production
• Demonstrated mastery of creative, interaction and experience design that integrate technology.
• Proven ability to plan and execute both traditional media production projects, advanced web development, and software applications.
• Understanding of physical and pervasive computer technologies and development of alternative interface designs
• Demonstrated understanding of H/C interaction, learning theory, and media/communications design
• Experience in large scale project planning, management and production
• Understanding of integration of technology into a physical environment a plus
• Ability to recommend and incorporate emerging technology into experience design concepts
• Command of industry standard IA documentation, experience in user interface and experience design documentation
