Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. Seeks Senior Interaction Designer

Overview:

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. is looking for a Senior Interaction Designer.
This position is accountable for researching developing and executing design solutions related to information layout and the user’s experience with the content. The senior Interaction Designer works on high profile or complex projects. Develops, presents and documents detailed interaction and functional specifications. Establishes and maintains design guidelines, best practices and standards.

Is familiar with the online publishing environment and reviews competing products and recommends design solutions that differentiate Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. interactive products from those of its competitors. Has a proven track record of working with large and small-scale information databases, the ability to drive performance improvements as well as positive user responses.

 

Core Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Strong communications skills and ability to build working relations across all levels of an organization, Product Sponsors, Edit Leads, Product Managers, Technology Leads and Visual Designers to create final interface features and creates consensus interface design solutions.
  • Ability to gather and translate business requirements and user needs, task and goals into meaningful interactive experiences that satisfy users and/or reduce costs or improve profitability. Design concepts and functionality into meaningful user experiences that can be monetized.
  • Develops testing and prototype methodologies, performs ongoing usability research on prototypes and iterative designs
  • Leads design guidelines, best practices, and standards in order to enhance business efficiencies, search engine optimization and usability performance.
  • Create strategies and procedures for carrying out systematic design standards across multiple products and leveraging business requirements through cross product design and recirculation opportunities.
  • Design the information architecture and user experience for transactional, informational, and marketing websites, including the following deliverables:

–   Experience Concept Models

–   Prototypes

–   User experience documentation and functional specifications

–   Site Map Documentation

–   Detailed data/user flows, use cases and business rules

–   Market analysis and competitive landscape reports with focus on UX/UI

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of current Internet technologies and industry trends with an emphasis on web 2.0 and social networking
  • Analyzes web traffic data to understand customers’ patterns and trends and assessing ongoing usability and performance.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Has strong knowledge of information design principles and well developed skills in creating and documenting all aspects of business requirements, interface design (wire framing, story boarding, rough layouts, mock-ups, interface elements and icons), functional specifications (technical writing and annotations), user needs (flow charts, scenarios and prototype testing) and information architecture (site maps and navigation) are critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute on IA of complex transactional interfaces, taxonomies and metadata frameworks, and templates for content management systems
  • Demonstrated experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions
  • Demonstrated experience conducting user research and translating user research into design decisions
  • Exceptional ability to document and defend methodologies
  • At least 5 or more years as an information architect, interaction designer, or experience designer (or similar role), creating and testing online consumer product interfaces and applications and a clear understanding of online publishing environment
  • Advanced degree or background in one of the following is preferred: Human Factors Engineering, Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science and/or comparable work experience
  • Proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Visio, Microsoft Word Suite and Excel and have working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Flash, After Effects, and Content Management Systems
