Mark Gorton, entrepreneur and founder of Tower Research Capital LLC, OpenPlans, Lime Wire LLC, and the Lime Group of Companies, is launching a new venture. This venture is focused on significant aspects of American history in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s that are not well understood by the public. This project has the potential to change the way American history is perceived and taught by future generations. The goals of the venture are to bring together disparate facts and people through the Internet and then to leverage this new resource in the pursuit of business opportunities. The first steps will be to create a website that facilitates the collation of information from a wide variety of sources, ranging from the web to printed text, and to build a community of researchers to make productive use of this web tool. The site will most likely include a wiki, question-and-answer functionality, and online reputation tools.

The Full Stack Rails Developer will work closely with Mark to specify and guide the development of the site, select the appropriate technologies and tools for the project, build quick prototypes to refine the initial specification, and recruit additional team members as appropriate. This position is available in New York City only.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Specifying and designing a website with an intuitive interface to serve as an organized, centralized resource for information concerning aspects of 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s American history

· Selecting the optimal tools and applications for building this website

· Implementing workflow and web interface design to formulate a clear specification for the project

· Creating a prototype of a question-and-answer system with reputation, citation, and sharing features

QUALIFICATIONS

· Strong educational background

· Experience with designing, architecting, and building websites

· Mastery of Rails and Ruby

· Mastery of UI development, including Javascript (jQuery, CoffeeScript), CSS (SASS), and HTML (HAML)

· Experience with databases (PostgreSQL and NoSQL)

· Experience with versioning (Git) and testing (RSpec, Cucumber)

· Experience with web servers (nginx, Apache)

· Experience deploying apps to the cloud (Amazon, Rackspace, Heroku)

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience.
