PKT Internship Program Overview
The PKT NYC Summer Internship Program is a 10-week program that runs from June 11 through August 9th. It is broken up into three main parts: 1) Day-to-Day department assignments and projects 2) Seminars and 3) Project and Presentation. Each component adds to the interns’ exposure and understanding of the advertising industry.
We challenge our interns by providing real projects. Each intern is assigned to a specific department or brand(s) within the agency. Whether the intern is working in Account Management, Technology, Creative, or Strategy, our goal is to offer the experience of what an actual career in advertising would be like.
In order to expose the interns to other departments, we hold weekly seminars on the different parts of the agency and aspects of the advertising industry. Seminars are given by our employees and offer the interns a comprehensive overview of the industry beyond their specific assignment.
It’s hard to get a complete overview of the advertising process in just 10 weeks. In an effort to provide “real-world” experience, we have the interns work on projects. We split the interns into teams and give them a brand to work on. Based on the marketing objective we outline, we ask them to research the competition, write a creative brief, concept integrated creative executions and build a media plan. Their final work is pitched to clients and senior executives, and honest feedback and critiques are provided. By the end of the project our interns have gone from briefs to final executions – and gain a real sense of the process and hurdles that make our industry as exciting as it is.
