The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is seeking part-time technicians who specialize in the installation of artworks that employ video, audio, film, computers and all other types of electronic media. This position will require concentrated periods of work during exhibition changeovers and intermittent temporary work during exhibitions. This position will report to the Head of Media Arts.
Founded in 1937, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is dedicated to promoting the understanding and appreciation of art, primarily of the modern and contemporary periods, through exhibitions, education programs, research initiatives, and publications.
The Guggenheim network that began in the 1970s when the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, was joined by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, has since expanded to include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (opened 1997) and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (currently in development). Looking to the future, the Guggenheim Foundation continues to forge international collaborations that take contemporary art, architecture, and design beyond the walls of the museum. Supervisory Responsibilities:
There are no direct reports associated with this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install a variety of A/V equipment, including monitors, projectors, speakers, computers, and playback equipment.
- Run cables in and on walls, floors and ceilings.
- Terminate various types of cables at custom lengths.
- Create custom mounts for equipment.
- Be on call for intermittent weekend and evening events.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Facility with hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, levels, and soldering irons.
- Skill to troubleshoot AV installations with minimal assistance.
- Ability to work with a team of people throughout the museum, including facilities staff, conservators, registrars, art handlers, curators and exhibition designers.
- Well organized.
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems preferred.
- Knowledge of computer networks and networking equipment preferred.
- Programming skills a plus, including the creation and modification of custom programs to control and synchronize playback equipment. familiarity with technologies such as PHP, Python, Bash scripting and Linux preferred.
- Knowledge of video editing in Final Cut a plus.
- Ability to climb ladders and use electronic lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
