[GIG] Robotics Person for Artist

I’m looking for a robotics person – metal fabrication, servo robotics, control systems. Also planning to work with muscle wire which might be the same person or an additional one.

I’m in the process of building a robotic dress cinema interface for an installation. A speculative commentary on our relationship with technology on the body  A robotic Dress with integrated projection mapping video scrims is rigged in a room. It mirrors the movement of a viewer as if they are wearing it, collecting motion data to assemble a customized 5 min. horror movie across its cinemascope screens.

The Dress has a servo driven stick figure skeleton controlled by a kinect to mirror a viewer’s body movement. The movement is then scaled from servo driven robotics and rigging to subtler robotic movements. The dress torso, panniers and pleats are made from 3d printed died gray plastic rigged with muscle wire – which creates a subtle creeping motion. In addition a wearable multiple based on the 3d printed and muscle wire driven tech of the installation will be created.

Considered a pioneer of interactive cinema, Dove produces unique and highly imaginative embodied hybrids of film, installation art and experimental theater. In her work, performers and participants interact with an unfolding narrative, using interface technologies such as motion sensing and laser harp to “perform” on-screen avatars.
