Interaction Designer / Immersive Media Environment

ESI is looking for an Interaction Designer to work as part of a cross-disciplinary team developing experience designs for a range of corporate and institutional clients. The Interaction Designer will be responsible for developing, documenting and communicating ideas for interactive experiences that weave physical space, digital tools, and social programs into engaging activities.
We are seeking for a creative individual who understands how people engage with dynamic digital media in public and semi-public spaces, and how to tell stories about places and communities. Experience in designing and integrating technology into the built environment is important, especially as it relates to digital, networked, and physical computing systems.
Responsibilities:
- Ideation with a focus on media design in physical space, working with project teams during research, concept, design and production phases
- Close collaboration with interdisciplinary design team throughout all design and production phases
- Documentation of UX/UI designs through diagrams, written text, scenario/storyboard development, rule sets/logic flows, sketches, wireframes, video, and any other means for communicating design intent and details
Qualifications:
- Experience with designing digital media for physical spaces
- Familiarity with the capabilities and uses of flexible media software environments (eg Touch Designer, Cinder or Open Frameworks)
- Understanding of physical and digital production constraints
- Familiarity with current trends in digital design for physical environments
- Collaborative
- Ability to effectively communicate design ideas to both internal team and external partners
- Self-motivated with an ability to manage time well and work efficiently without close supervision
- Ability to work independently and as part of a creative team
- Strong design documentation skills
- Careful attention to detail
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and other major software applications
- 3+ years experience in the field.
The job is based in New York City, with occasional travel required for our opportunities with large national and international clients. This is potentially a Freelance-to-perm position.
