[TEACHING / GIGs] Fall Class Instructors, the Art Center at 92Y

We are looking for experienced instructors to lead the classes below.  Classes start in mid-September and go through mid-January.

  • Design Lab / Ages 9 – 12 yrs
    Designers shape our lives everyday – from massive skyscrapers to the smallest camera to everyday objects like your toothbrush or the train or bus that takes you to work – everything around you is created by a designer.  Students will dive into product and graphic design, architecture, and more through building, sketching, modeling, and even digital design and 3D printing to challenge their problem-solving skills and visual vocabulary.

  • Arduino / Ages 14 +
    Learn the basics of robotics and computing while creating fun, interactive objects! Arduino is a popular and affordable open-source robotics platform used by artists, designers, hobbyists, and engineers. In this class students will learn how to use electronics and microcontrollers to design systems that respond to sound, touch, temperature, light and more.
    Sat, Oct 3, 1 – 3pm, 11 sessions
  • Vidcode / Ages 11 – 14 yrs 
    Did you know you can tell digital stories with computer science?!  Learn the “language of the web” (JavaScript) as you build your own creative video projects.  You will peel back the hood and discover how to create insanely creative video effects using CODE!  Become the master of your technological destiny and build your computer literacy as you develop interactive music videos, stop motion animations, and documentary projects.  At the end of the course you will have completed an Intro to JavaScript course and have advanced filmmaking skills to boot!

  • Video Game Design / Ages 9-12
    Using MIT’s visual programming language for kids, students will program and animate a video game of their own design. Use your artistic skills to create the characters, backgrounds, and storyline for a game that is 100% yours. At the end of the class you can share your creation with the world via Scratch’s website!

  • Lego WeDo / Ages 7-12 
    Fri, Sept 18, 4 – 5:30, 15 Sessions
  • Mindstorm / Ages 7-12
    Students must complete Robotics: WeDo before advancing to Mindstorm.
    Mon, Sept 21, 4-5:30 PM, 16 Sessions
