JOB: Brand Manager, HMH Productions Brands


HMH Productions is the media division of one of the oldest and most celebrated American book publishers – Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This division is responsible for developing HMH properties into multi-media brands (across tv, film, digital and print). The brand manager supports the production team in the creation of marketing content that will resonate for each platform and manages the marketing, product licensing, and promotions for our major franchises, which include Carmen Sandiego and The Oregon Trail.

Our focus is on building brands for kids and family that entertain, delight and inspire.


Brand strategy and brand campaigns

  • Shape and communicate brand vision and message

  • Translate brand elements into plans and go-to-market strategies

  • Lead brand creative development including style guides & logos

  • Measure and report performance of all marketing campaigns

  • Monitor market trends, research markets and competitive activity

  • Oversee new and ongoing digital advertising activities

Day-to-day execution of social and web strategy

  • Plan and manage the monthly social and web content strategy for HMH Production’s brands

  • Write social posts for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts (optimizing for each)– requires creative skills and knowledge of all social platforms

  • Conceptualize and run social campaigns

  • Analyze the data and recommend changes in strategy

  • Draft new creative content for our brand websites website.

  • Review site analytics and optimize for SEO.

Support of licensing

  • Prepare all presentations for licensing partners

  • Track all milestones, schedules, deliverables

  • Conduct product reviews of all art, packaging, and legal language

  • Archive all stages of licensing

  • Manage trademark filings for key brands in US and internationally

  • Manage product samples and distribution

Support of all partnerships and promotions

  • Research potential partnerships for HMH Productions brands

  • Review content for all deliverables from promotional partners

  • Write notes and redirect content creation as necessary

  • Manage and deliver projects according to schedule


  • 2-3 years working experience as a Brand Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, Social Media Manager or Associate Brand Manager

  • Ability to develop brand and marketing strategies and communicate recommendations

  • Strong analytical skills with a creative mind

  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and marketing best practices

  • Experience in children’s and family media brands a plus
