ABOUT STEM FROM DANCE

STEM From Dance (SFD) envisions a world where underrepresented minority girls are creative, confident, and equipped to be leaders and innovators in the STEM fields. To this end, SFD gives girls access to a STEM education by using dance to empower, educate, and encourage them as our next generation of engineers, scientists, and techies. Since 2012, SFD has partnered with schools and community centers, serving hundreds of girls across New York City and beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Director of STEM and Arts Education, you will boldly lead the innovative curriculum of STEM From Dance. To do this, you will conduct a thorough assessment of the program, develop a new curriculum accordingly, oversee its implementation, and continually assess, improve, and expand the curriculum. This will result in meaningful academic and personal growth for our students, clear direction and guidance for instructional staff, and increased sustainability for the organization. You will also have ownership of the evaluation of the program. You will work in conjunction with the Program Director and report to the Chief Executive Officer. You are a seasoned STEM educator with curriculum writing experience, lead with determination and humility, and have a deep belief in the mission of STEM From Dance. Collectively, your work, along with the rest of the STEM From Dance team, will impact hundreds of students and inspire a new generation of engineers, scientists, and techies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Development of curriculum (40%)
    • Develop and improve on STEM instructional materials, lessons, and activities for STEM From Dance instructors to use during program sessions
    • Designing new modules to expand the breadth and depth of computer science and dance program offerings
    • Apply research of proven practices to ensure that students receive a high-quality educational experience
  • Support of the implementation of curriculum (20%)
    • In conjunction with the Director of Programs, observe program sessions and provide feedback on the implementation of the curriculum
    • In conjunction with the Director of Programs, support instructor onboarding and coaching for the curriculum
  • Innovation of new offerings and approaches (20%)
    • Explore and prototype new ways of closely integrating STEM and dance
  • Evaluation of program efficacy (20%)
    • Ensure that the appropriate evaluation plan and tools are developed and implemented
    • Analyze student performance data to identify areas of success and growth and use that data to drive curriculum updates and changes.

  • Maintain a positive outlook, flexibility, and sense of possibility in stressful situations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a professional work setting for at least five years required
  • Work experience or educational background in science, technology, engineering, and/or math required; computer science highly preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing a new curriculum required
  • Quantifiable success as a K-12 classroom teacher and three or more years of experience highly preferred
  • Experience with dance in a formal setting preferred
