Description
The Experience Insights Lab (XIL) in the Interaction & Experience Research IXR group in Intel Labs seeks
a research scientist to develop and conduct hybrid quantitative & qualitative research projects. The
candidate must be able to conduct statistical analyses on very large, heterogeneous data sets and create
innovative and compelling visualizations that capture the patterns, dynamism and movement in the
patterns. Example projects could include writing software to track how people use their mobile phones,
deploying that script on a few hundred devices for a month, and analyzing + visualizing the results. Or,
mining a hundred years of US patent data and creating an interactive display about trends in innovation.
The candidate must also create, maintain, and troubleshoot software on multiple platforms, work
with engineers and ethnographers to develop projects, methods, and tools for discovery, analysis and
synthesis and communicate research findings to engineering and business stakeholders. The candidate
will translate findings into technology, product, service and business concepts and work extensively with
IXR, IL and other Intel business units.
The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following: Information Visualization,
Computer Science, Statistics
Qualifications
This position requires an ability to combine elements of machine learning, statistical data analytics, and
data visualization to support social and drive research agendas. This position requires a proven ability
connecting quantitative methods with such qualitative social research methods as ethnography, surveys,
observation, and media studies.
Minimum Requirements:
-Masters degree in information visualization, computer science, or in the social sciences with an
emphasis on statistical analysis, and/or in a related field, such as economics, sociology, psychology,
media art, etc.
-6 months strong programming and analytic software skills required (e.g. MatLab, Java, C++, or similar).
Preferred Requirements:
-Experience working with large data sets is preferred.
-Familiarity with social science theory and qualitative methods is also desired.
– PhD preferred.
