Digital Strategy Intern at Firedoglake.com

Firedoglake is a leading news coverage and activism hub of the
progressive left. We are seeking driven, energetic interns looking to
gain experience in the rough-and-tumble world of American political
blogging and advocacy.

Location: Brooklyn, NY (Gowanus / Park Slope, Union St. stop off the R
train)

Hours & Duration: 15-20/hrs per week. This internship is unpaid but
can be eligible for school credit.

About the position:
As part of the Firedoglake team, interns will have a unique
opportunity to work inside a independent media and activism
organization. Committed candidates seeking experience in online
political advocacy and independent media are required for this
position.

Duties
Interns will wear many hats within Firedoglake, but will generally
have a hand in statistical reporting and analysis to improve our
overall effectiveness and efficiency, finding creative ways to promote
our brand / stories / activism over social media, creating and
customizing the necessary tools for our readers and activists, and
communicating and interacting with our supporters.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Proficiency in Excel or Google Docs
Willingness to play with numbers and data
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A strong belief in community activism and engagement
A strong work ethic
Willingness to commit a minimum of 3 months
Confidence to work independently and under tight deadlines
Experience with and a footprint in social media, such as Facebook,
YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, etc.
Your own laptop

Desired Skills and Qualifications
We're most interested in your drive and commitment. While none of the
following skills and qualifications are required or necessary for this
position, you may get a leg up if you're familiar with: HTML and CSS,
photoshop or graphic/web design, WordPress blogs, online political
advocacy and previous web administration experiences.

Term of commitment
We are flexible on start and end-dates for this position, but
commitments must be a minimum of 3 months, 15-20hrs per week.
