[INTERN] Intern Needed for the Plastic Pollution Coalition

Intern Needed for the Plastic Pollution Coalition

We are looking for an intern to help in the day to day affairs of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, with an emphasis on a special project to create a large scale art/activist installation in the heart of NYC that engages with issues of plastic pollution. The intern would be the face for many interactions with the public and the City, and would help with the logistics of coordinating the installation. As our organization in NYC is small, the intern would be working alongside the regional coordinators in high-level activities such as writing press releases, organizing fundraising, creating educational material, representing the PPC at meetings, and helping us plan events. Other duties, such as leading his or her own initiatives, are possible commensurate with experience.

He or she would work directly with the founders of Trashpatch.org, a do-tank dedicated to raising awareness of plasticpollution in the environment through art and design and with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, an global organization dedicated to fighting plastic pollution. This position will include interacting with heads of organizations as well as volunteers.
The intern will be able to work towards his or her strengths and any unique attributes he or she brings to the job; while many tasks are defined in advance, the position is also flexible to accommodate innovation. We are particularly interested in someone with webdesign and app creation skills.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • experience, interest, or other commitment to the environment and social justice, especially plastic pollution;
  • excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal;
  • research and citation skills (beyond Internet research);
  • social media skills;
  • website development and design;
  • other computer skills, including web research, word processing, presentation software, graphic design, video editing;
  • resides in NYC or surrounding area

Dates:

The intern would work through the Spring semester with possible extension to the summer, 5-10 hours a week. Start date is somewhat flexible. This is an unpaid position.
