[JOB / TEACHING] Web Design Instructor, Rhode Island School of Design

Summer 2014 Faculty Position

Rhode Island School of Design

Summer Studies/SIGDS

Web Design Instructor

RISD Summer Studies is currently seeking a Web Design instructor to teach in our 2014 Summer Institute for Graphic Design Studies program.

Course Description

This hands-on course teaches designers how to conceive, prototype and program websites. In order to better understand the possibilities and constraints of browser-based design, participants of this course learn how to build websites using modern Web standards: HTML, CSS, JavaScript. After several short exercises, students design and hand-code a static portfolio website. Participants leave with a working knowledge of HTML and CSS, improved Web imaging skills, and familiarity with relevant Web tools including Web typography, JQuery, Ajax, data feeds, video integration and mobile devices. Although the exercises and final project use static content, the course introduces the latest versions of open-source content management systems. This course is open to designers of all levels, and has plenty of opportunities for intermediate and advanced students to build upon previous experience. Note: While computer labs are utilized for each SIGDS course, students are encouraged to augment the studio experience by bringing their own laptops and storage media.
