During the afterschool coding program, Breaking the Code, girls will have an opportunity to learn and create the code behind their favorite videos. As girls work on developing their own video projects (one, a story personal to them and the other, a PSA for a cause they believe in), they’ll meet with mentors who will serve as a sounding board on their project ideas and later, provide a review of their code, as girls learn Javascript. Beginning in the Fall 2016, mentors will meet with girls twice via Skype and may have up to 6 mentees; providing feedback to groups of 2-6 girls. We are looking for “women in the field”—women engaged in some capacity with computer science, who are interested in volunteering and inspiring girls in grades 6th through 8th to be interested in technology. Graduate students or professionals encouraged! Must be able to comply with all policies regarding the Well-Being of GSGNY Girl Members.
