EXHIBITION TECHNICIAN
As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its
collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and
inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was
founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic
Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle
Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is looking for two part-time Exhibition Technicians to
maintains and repairs exhibition elements, equipment and interactive stations to ensure
functionality and quality experience for all visitors during the upcoming exhibition season from
June 27th – October 31st.
Essential Responsibilities include:
Maintains and repairs interactive and exhibit elements to ensure functionality and quality
performance.
Reviews functionality and performs repairs on a regular schedule throughout the day.
Aids in maintaining the inventory records of exhibition supplies related to current
displays.
Performs electronic and light mechanical repairs as related to media and interactive
exhibit elements and equipment.
Closes exhibitions per daily schedule and reviews functionality on regular scheduled
reviews throughout the day.
Performs other duties as required.
This position requires an 18 week commitment from June 27 to October 31, 2016, including 2
weeks training; June 27 – July 9: 9am – 5pm. The regular working hours will begin July 10th –
October 31st: 2pm-8pm, Sunday – Thursday, 2pm – 9pm, Friday-Saturday.
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with museum media, audio,
graphics, hands-on interactive elements and lighting equipment. The candidate must have the
knowledge and ability to safely use power tools and other shop equipment, basic knowledge in
a variety of engineering or scientific principles, and basic knowledge of exhibition fabrication,
installation and repair methods and materials. The candidate must be able to read and interpret
shop drawings, user manuals, and hardware lists, be self-motivated with good problem-solving,
judgment, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and be able to meet deadlines
in a fast-paced environment. Must enjoy working within a team environment and with the public.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
