INTERN/VOLUNTEER: FACES Lab – Video Creator Needed (Short Psychoeducational Videos for Families)

The Family Services & Supports Project (FSSP) helps families of children with behavioral challenges by providing early, low-intensity support. We’re seeking a student to create a series of short videos (≤ 8 min) that provide families with accessible psychoeducation and practical strategies. Tasks include editing, light animation/motion graphics, adding captions, and collaborating with researchers. Skills in Premiere/Final Cut/CapCut/Canva/Descript welcome; motion graphics a plus. Research credit is available, per department guidelines.

Interested? Email Madison (Maddy) Forde at  mxf4745@nyu.edu with a short note about your experience and (if available) 1–2 samples.

About FSSP:
The Family Services & Supports Project is focused on getting timely, practical support to families of children with behavioral challenges before high-intensity therapy is needed. We’re testing scalable, low-cost interventions, including psychoeducational online videos and single-session consultations, and using light behavioral nudges (reminders, motivational prompts) to boost completion. The goal is to show how early, low-intensity services can improve child outcomes, expand access, and reserve intensive care for families with the greatest need.

What we need:
We’re launching a new study and want to produce a series of brief videos (≤ 8 minutes each) that give families accessible psychoeducation and practical strategies to support their children at home.

Student role (collaborative with our research team):

  • Turn provided scripts/outlines into engaging short videos
  • Light animation or motion graphics; inclusive/diverse character design where possible
  • Add captions and basic sound/voiceover (we can supply voice if preferred)
  • Export files to our spec; iterate based on feedback

Preferred skills (flexible):

  • Video editing in Premiere Pro, Final Cut, CapCut, Canva, or Descript
  • Motion graphics/animation experience is a plus
  • Organized, responsive, and comfortable with iterative feedback

Timeframe & logistics:

  • Start: as soon as possible; timeline set with the student
  • Estimated commitment: ~5–8 hrs/week for 6–8 weeks (adjustable)
  • Compensation: Research credit, per department guidelines
