JOB: Thirteen/WNET Interactive & Broadband dept

The Thirteen/WNET Interactive & Broadband department seeks an experienced LAMP Web developer/administrator to join our team. You must enjoy configuring and tuning Apache and MySQL server software, and automating Web-related tasks in a Linux environment. You must love to write high-quality, optimized PHP and JavaScript, and keep up with the latest trends in Web-related technologies. Initially, the work will be about 75% Web development and 25% Web-related system administration, with proportions adjusted over time as necessary.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who wants to dive into problems, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and isn’t satisfied with “good enough.” We want someone who enjoys learning and is unafraid to develop his or her skill set under pressure. This is an excellent opportunity to help us take our award-winning, media-rich Web sites to the next level.

Responsibilities
* Configure and optimize Apache 2.2, MySQL 5 and other Web-related server software
* Develop Web applications for Thirteen (http://www.thirteen.org/) and PBS (http://www.pbs.org/)
* Collaborate extensively with producers, designers and other developers
* Develop admin back-ends with PHP or Rails
* Develop reusable, modular code and support it’s usage

General Requirements
* A desire to learn and continuously develop your skill set
* At least three years of relevant Web programming experience
* A proven track record of launching interactive Web sites/applications
* Enthusiasm for Web development best practices

Technical Requirements
* Experience configuring server software and developing Web applications in a LAMP environment
* Understanding of Web application security issues and countermeasures
* Expert level knowledge of PHP 5
* Experience developing with Subversion
* Experience developing full-text search engines with MySQL
* Experience developing Web applications with XHTML, CSS2, and JavaScript

Desirable Skills
* Experience developing WordPress plugins
* Experience with Rails, Pylons or other Web framework
* Experience with Drupal, Joomla! or other CMS
* Experience with Prototype and Script.aculo.us or YUI
* Experience debugging JavaScript with Firebug
* Understanding of DOM methods and properties
* Experience with ActionScript, Ruby or Python
* Experience developing mod_perl applications with CGI and DBI
