Passwords

For NYU and ITP accounts, your password is for your use only. Do not share it with anyone, not even an “official” helpdesk-type person. It should be kept entirely confidential.

You should also familiarize yourself with Responsibilities of all NYU Computer & Network Users and NYU’s ITS Policies in general.

If you’re working on a group project and need everyone in the group to be able to write to a directory on itp.nyu.edu, then make the directory group writable. If you need help with this feel free to ask.

Do not ever send passwords in e-mail. E-mail travels the network and is stored in plain text. It is much too easy for packet sniffers to find passwords in e-mails. If you receive a password through e-mail you should change that password immediately.
