Spatial Literacy

What my brain is reeling from and trying to process after reading Jump to Universality

– The speculation that had the difference engine been implemented successfully, the internet would have happened a hundred years sooner. The victorian internet, which was a system of complex early telegraph systems indicated that humanity was ready for it socially with ‘hackers, online romances, flame wars etc.’

– Drawing parallels between the evolution of code and evolution of genetic code.. For over a billion years, the biological system had all the building blocks of chemistry it needed but had stopped evolving. It only produced life forms only as complex as bacteria.. What was the biological catalyst that led to further evolution and how would it translate to a digital catalyst?

– The digital revolution seems to be dependent on human ability to sustain it with indefinite energy and maintenance.. How are we planning to do that?

The film ‘The Matrix’ obviously left an impression of a lifetime on me. Decoding and encoding spatial data amongst other things will revolutionize visualizations. Users probably will not be able to visually differentiate the real world from the constructed life like simulations and games.
